Wood Sculptor
Lives and works in Brittany

A Romanian-born wood sculptor, Andreea Zahiu now lives and works in Brittany, where she has her own studio. It was in Oxford, England, where she lived for nearly 12 years, that she first developed a passionate interest in woodworking. She sculpts and approaches this natural material with patience, choosing to see it as something with a life and history of its own. In doing so, she enters into an intimate dialogue with each species of wood to create works that are both powerful and deeply personal.

“This long and absorbing work roots both body and mind in an intimate dialogue with the material. It reveals itself through an almost alchemical exchange, transforming not only the wood but the artist as well. To transform oneself by transforming — that is the alchemical equation that drives my creative process.”
